Avoid Exeter warning after cement mixer falls off lorry

Motorists have been warned to avoid one of the main approaches to Exeter after reports of "extremely heavy" traffic. Congestion in the area has been building after a cement mixer fell off a lorry at the A376 Exmouth Road at the Clyst St Mary roundabout

The incident happened at around 4pm. No-one has been injured in the incident.

The Clyst St Mary roundabout is currently closed in both directions with Devon County Council warning motorists to stay away from the area. A council spokesperson warned those already in the area to allow extra time for their journey.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were alerted to an incident on the A376 at Clyst St George following reports of a cement mixer coming off the back of a lorry. Devon Highways attended following a large amount of cement being on the road.

"This has caused a closure on at the roundabout on Exeter Road. Drivers advised to avoid the area for the time being while a clean-up takes place."

In a statement published on Twitter, Devon Alert (Devon County Council) said: "The A376 is closed between Clyst st Mary and Clyst st George due to a RTC. Traffic is extremely heavy around Sandygate as a result. Please allow extra time for your journey and avoid the area if possible."
